According to the Indonesian Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974, any property acquired during the span of the marriage becomes joint property, regardless of whose name it is registered under or who physically purchased it, unless a Prenuptial Agreement dictates otherwise. Inheritances, specific gifts, or assets acquired prior to the marriage strictly remain separate property.

Without formal legal establishment, a child born outside a state-recognized marriage legally only has a civil relationship with the mother. The legal process of child legitimation and acknowledgment through the court ensures the child receives full civil rights including the right to maintenance and inheritance directly from their biological father.
